Meshing: Cap off for Cap on

Tips & Tricks | Posted on October 11th, 2012 by

Oftentimes when you are working with devices with internal fluid flow, the imported CAD design represents the vessel material. The inside is plainly void. This may leave you clueless since it is inside where you want to create a volume mesh for the flow equations. How can you solve this meshing problem in COMSOL?

How to Create High-Resolution Images of COMSOL Models for Articles and Papers

Tips & Tricks | Posted on August 2nd, 2012 by

It has been some time since we’ve had the “Tips & Tricks” column in COMSOL News. Many people have asked me for tips on how to use COMSOL Multiphysics, so I figured I would share some with you here on the blog. The first in this new series of tips and tricks explains how you can create high-resolution images of COMSOL models.

Free Nodes Boost COMSOL Multiphysics HPC (High Performance Computing) Applications

Tips & Tricks | Posted on November 3rd, 2009 by

Cluster computing is making its way to the engineering community. This is certainly true for users of COMSOL. Here is some great news: Users of COMSOL Multiphysics on floating network licenses will be able to deploy their simulations distributed on any number of nodes — without any additional licensing cost.

New Workflow in Version 4.0

Tips & Tricks | Posted on October 6th, 2009 by

COMSOL Multiphysics version 4.0 is just days away from seeing the light of the day in the shape of a Beta prerelease. We can’t wait to get it out to you.

Without telling too much – I don’t want to spoil the fun – you’re in for a nice surprise. Directly when you start COMSOL you’re into the work flow, we call it the COMSOL Desktop. It’s an entirely new user interface with tools that guide you through the steps in setting up and running a multiphysics simulation. Instantly you will notice that you get a phenomenal overview, full control of model settings, and easy access to simulation results. After using it for some time it feels like home.

Backward

Did you know that it is easy to set up certain kinds of inverse problems in COMSOL real quick with the aid of the Global Equations feature? Imagine this: instead of asking “how hot will the house get if I fire the boiler with three logs per hour”, you ask “I want the living room to be 72 °F, how many logs per hour should I feed the boiler with?”.

Working with CAD

Interfacing | Posted on July 3rd, 2009 by

This week I will talk about CAD import. Many times, the first task a new user of COMSOL is up to is to lay their hands on the CAD models of the design team. After all, COMSOL handles the analysis, which needs to be closely tied with the design process. Ideally, design and analysis is integrated in one single process.

There are different ways to marry the CAD models with the analysis. File based import is maybe the most common method still: import CAD files to the COMSOL software. There is a number of file formats supported and you can read more about it here: /products/cad/

This is the grand opening of a number of exciting ways to stay in touch with colleagues around the world, hosted by the comsol.com website. One of the components of the Community is the Blog section, to which this is the very first contribution. We will keep this section informative but at the same time informal and relaxed. New posts will appear every now and then at a weekly pace.
