Mass Transfer in Low Re Crossflow
AJ Baker, University of Tennessee, Knoxville
COMSOL Multiphysics fluidized-bed problem of mass transfer in creeping flow over a cylindrical catalyst pellet.
Objectives of this simulation:
1. Set-up the COMSOL Multiphysics fluidized-bed problem of mass transfer in creeping flow past a cylindrical catalyst pellet. Pay particular attention to the BC specifications on the pellet surface.
2. Execute simulations for mass transfer to the crossflow for Reynolds number Re ranging 5? through 75 and for Schmidt number Sc ranging 4 through 32. Compare the results to quantifiy the effective of the non-D parameters Re and Sc on mass transport across the pellet surface.
3. Perform a solution-adapted mesh refinement study for the Re = 75 and Sc = 4 specification, hence determine the mesh distribution required to generate an engineering accurate solution.
