Multiphysics Modeling Solutions for Advanced Vehicle Research & Development
As part of improvement of fuel economy of automobiles, electrification is considered to be one of the key options. Conventional ICE based power train system is limited in delivering best operating point in all load scenarios due to system sizing for broader needs. Electrification is done by traction motor/generators, battery pack & through different power transfer paths from prime movers. Key challenges in developing such electrified vehicles are meeting customers' expectations on cost & fuel economy aspects, government support to improve the market penetration and the critical technologies. Five main areas can be considered to be critical are Powertrain architecture, battery, electrical motor, Power electronics and simulations capabilities for virtual verification, life enhancement & calibration. Simulations in-turn has hurdles to build models with multi-scale and multi-physics.
Suresh Arikapudi completed his mechanical engineering and has a M.S in Mechatronics. He has over 12 years experience in the area of Hybrid, EV and Fuel Cell Systems. He currently works as a project lead for 4X EV Concept Vehicles. His areas of interest include autonomous vehicles and virtual prototyping of vehicles.
