You can model and simulate any physics-based system using COMSOL Multiphysics. COMSOL Day of Mechanics will focus on COMSOL's physics interfaces for mechanical applications including the ability to couple these to other physics. Register to one or more sessions below to experience mechanical capabilities of COMSOL Multiphysics.
09:00-10:30 Structural Mechanics Modeling Session
Explore the analysis of mechanical structures with COMSOL Multiphysics. The COMSOL's mechanical specific modules are dedicated tools for performing a wide range of analysis types where it is necessary to examine mechanical and structural deformations.
During this workshop we will provide an overview of the COMSOL Multiphysics capabilities in the field of structural mechanics. You will also get an opportunity to test COMSOL Multiphysics self and set up and solve a simple multiphysics problem related to structural mechanics.
11:00-12:30 Contact Analysis Session
The Structural Mechanics Module enables you to model large deformation with geometric nonlinearity and follower loads. Loads can be distributed and may also depend on other physics, such as electromagnetic or fluid flow forces. Mechanical contact is also available and is multiphysics enabled. You can, for example, allow for heat flux (requires the Heat Transfer Module) or electric currents (requires the AC/DC Module) across boundaries that are in contact, and make use of contact stresses to simulate the extent of current or heat transfer.
During this workshop you will get an overview of the possibilities for modeling mechanical contact with the Structural Mechanics Module as well as multiphysics contact. You will also get a chance to work through a tutorial problem on contact analysis.
13:30-15:00 Nonlinear Structural Materials Session
Get introduced to modeling materials with a nonlinear stress-strain relationship for mechanical and geotechnical purposes. The Nonlinear Structural Materials Module augments the mechanical capabilities of the Structural Mechanics Module and the MEMS Module with nonlinear material models, including large strain plastic deformation capabilities.
During this workshop we will present a general overview of the Nonlinear Structural Materials Module. We will demonstrate COMSOL's capabilities in this area and present a set of nonlinear structural material models. You will also get an opportunity to try the tool for yourself in a hands-on computer session.
15:30-17:00 Multibody Dynamics Modeling Session
Learn about modeling of structures containing combinations of rigid and flexible bodies using the Multibody Dynamics Module. This add-on to the Structural Mechanics Module is used to perform both static and dynamic analysis for a system of flexible and rigid components connected through a set of joints.
During this workshop we will provide an overview of the multibody dynamics modeling in COMSOL Multiphysics. Different types of joints and their applications will be introduced, and examples will be presented. In a hands-on session, you will also get a chance to work through a tutorial problem related to multibody dynamics.
The second part of each session is a hands-on tutorial in COMSOL Multiphysics Version 4.4. During those sessions you will get a chance to work through one or more tutorial problems related to structural mechanics. These tutorial problems are designed to make participants quickly proficient in COMSOL Multiphysics Version 4.4, enabling you to model your own problems with the included two week trial.

The workshops provide an introduction to COMSOL Multiphysics. The sessions are intended for new as well as existing COMSOL software users who would like to get acquainted with the mechanical capabilities of the COMSOL modeling environment.
