COMSOL Multiphysics enables the user to simulate fluid dynamics and any multiphysics application involving fluid flow such as fluid-structure interactions. The COMSOL's fluid specific modules, including CFD, Microfluidics, Subsurface Flow, Molecular Flow
and Pipe Flow, bring easy-to-use tools for the study of fluid flow systems.
Among other things, COMSOL gives you the tools to model:
- Flow around vehicles and structures
- Fans, grills, pumps, mixers
- Conjugent heat transfer
- Porous media
- Turbulent flow
- Rarefied flow
Intro to COMSOL Multiphysics
and Live Demos
The first part of the workshop will guide you through the modeling process for fluid flow systems with a multiphysics twist. Benchmark and application specific examples and models will be presented. We will also explore Fluid Structure Interaction (or FSI) field in which the flow affects the structure and the resulting deformation in the structure affects the flow. A few familiar examples of this phenomena are wing flutter, building sway and valve chatter. We will present a variety of simple examples characteristic of FSI problems and will conclude with live demo showing how easy it is to set up this important class of problems with COMSOL.
The second half of the workshop is a hands-on tutorial in COMSOL Multiphysics Version 4.4. During this session you will get a chance to work through one or more tutorial problems drawn from the above topics. These tutorial problems are designed to make participants quickly proficient in COMSOL Multiphysics Version 4.4, enabling you to model your own problems with the included two week trial.

This workshop provides an introduction to COMSOL Multiphysics. It is intended for new as well as existing COMSOL software users who would like to get acquainted with the fluid dynamics capabilities of the COMSOL modeling environment.
