Geometry creation or CAD import and subsequent meshing are essential steps in the modeling workflow. Traditionally, these steps required more than half of the overall efforts in simulation projects. Enhanced functionalities and user-friendliness have drastically increased efficiency and allow for more demanding tasks to be realized. The importance of an adequate geometry and mesh in a FEM simulation, however, has by no means diminished since then.

This course provides basic and advanced knowledge about the geometry and mesh capabilities in COMSOL Multiphysics and shows how to avoid common pitfalls. Current and future users of the software can benefit by learning essential modeling strategies that will make their simulations more efficient.

The course is a mix lecture, demos and guided tutorials with lots of opportunities to discuss. We show you where and how the new tools of COMSOL 4 can be used most efficiently in your field of application and encourage you to bring in your own questions and models. Basic familiarity with COMSOL or modeling in general is a sufficient prerequisite.

Instructors

Zoran Vidakovic
COMSOL Multiphysics GmbH, Zürich

Zoran Vidakovic received his BSc and MSc degrees in mechanical engineering from ETH Zürich, Switzerland. His studies and research projects focused on turbomachinery, heat transfer, fluid-
and thermodynamics and advanced energy technologies in general. In his master thesis at the Laboratory for Energy Conversion he numerically investigated the turbine performance and heat transfer of innovative cycle concepts for CO2 capture ready fossil power plants. Before joining COMSOL in April 2010 Mr. Vidakovic completed a six month industrial internship in the Aero-/ Thermodynamics R&D department of MAN Turbo AG Schweiz.

Dr. Thierry Luthy (Physicist)
COMSOL Multiphysics GmbH, Zurich

Thierry Luthy studied at the University of Neuchâtel in the field of superconducting materials. After his physicist diploma, he worked for some years at the EMPA Dübendorf in various research areas e.g. the nondestructive testing of high-technology ceramics. In 2003, he completed his PhD at the ETH Zürich in the field of composite materials.

Fee

The fee for this one day course is CHF 999. Feel free to ask for academic discount price (CHF 499). The fee includes printed course material, lunch and coffee. If you book several courses at once - discounts may be available upon request.


Cancellation/Return policies

Instructor-led training tuition is fully refundable if we receive written notification (via mail or e-mail) of cancellation on or before 14 business days prior to the class. Cancellations made less than 14 business days prior to class will be charged CHF 150. If you fail to show up to class without written notice, you will be charged the full tuition. You may send a substitute in your place to avoid a fee. If a training course cannot take place as scheduled due to circumstances beyond COMSOL's control, we will issue a full refund for the amount that you have already paid.
