Heat Transfer

Date & Location

City: Bangalore, Karnataka
Date: July 26, 2013
Location: To be announced

Introduction

This one-day course provides a thorough introduction to using COMSOL’s heat and mass transfer modeling capabilities. You will learn how to build models using the capabilities of the core COMSOL Multiphysics package, as well as the Heat Transfer, Chemical Reaction Engineering, Microfluidics, and Subsurface Flow Modules. The course is a combination of lecture, and guided hands-on. The two-day Intensive Course is a recommended prerequisite. The course will address the following topics:

Primary Contents:

  • Heat conduction in solids
  • Forced and free convection in fluids
  • Radiative heat transfer in free space
  • Heat conduction in thin shells
  • Thermally resistive and conductive thin layers
  • Diffusion and convection in diluted and concentrated solutions
  • Mass transfer with chemical reactions

Additional topics, addressed according to class interest:

  • Radiation in participating media
  • Bioheating
  • Electromagnetic heating
  • Surface reactions
  • Heat and mass transfer in porous media

Suggested Background

This course assumes some familiarity with the basic concepts of mass transfer and conductive, convective, and radiative heat transfer. We strongly recommend that those new to COMSOL Multiphysics take the COMSOL Multiphysics Intensive Training course prior to attending this class.
