This course covers the structural mechanics modeling functionality in COMSOL Multiphysics. We will use a combination of technical lecture, guided hands-on and self-paced hands-on examples to cover topics such as static, transient and frequency response analysis in linear elastic structures. We will discuss instability analysis such as buckling and postbuckling and present approximate modeling techniques using shell, beam and truss. We will then delve into nonlinear structural mechanics to address topics such as geometric nonlinearity for modeling large deformation and rotation, nonlinear material behavior and analysis of contact and friction between surfaces.

Supratik Datta holds a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from University of Maryland, College Park. He has been involved in research related to cryogenics in biomedical application, damage detection in composites, phase transformation in ferrous alloys and design and non-linear modeling of smart structures. He has received awards from AIAA and ASME for his work on magnetostrictive materials. He is currently working as the Applications Manager in COMSOL, Inc., Palo Alto.
This course assumes a mechanical engineering background and familiarity with the concepts of structural mechanics. We strongly recommend that those new to COMSOL Multiphysics take the COMSOL Multiphysics Intensive Training course prior to attending this class.
The hours for all COMSOL courses are from 9:00am to 5:00pm; please plan to check in between 8:30am and 9:00am. Lunch and refreshments during the morning and afternoon breaks are included.

Instructor-led training tuition is fully refundable if we receive written
notification (via mail or e-mail) of cancellation on or before seven business
days prior to the class. Cancellations made less than seven business days prior
to class will be charged 25 percent of the course tuition fee. If you fail to
show up to class without written notice, you will be charged the full tuition.
You may send a substitute in your place to avoid a fee.
