This paper covers the following: * All-Optical Light Modulation of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) is achieved using asymmetric single nanoslits. A high on/off switching ratio of >20 dB and phase variation of >? were observed with the device lateral dimension of only about 2 ?m. * Efficient unidirectional excitation of SPP as well as beam splitting are achieved using the dielectric–film–coated asymmetric single nanoslits. The device lateral dimensions are 370nm and 800nm respectively. * Additional modulation of quasi-cylindrical waves to the total field provides new possibilities for the design of ultracompact plasmonic devices. * Broadband unidirectional generation of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) is achieved using the dielectric–film–coated asymmetric single nanoslits. * In a MIM waveguide, sharp and asymmetric Fano–line shapes in the transmission spectra appears due to the coupling effects of two different FP resonators, which can considerably increase the resolution of wavelength selecting in demultiplexers. The scattering theory is used to analyze the mechanism of these line shapes. * Based on the strong coupling of different resonators in MIM waveguides, a high-resolution Y-shape plasmonic beam-splitters was demonstrated. The resolution of wavelength selecting is significantly narrower than the full width of the isolated resonator. * Based on the strong coupling of different resonators in MIM waveguides, a compact and high–resolution plasmonic wavelength demultipelxer was demonstrated numerically. The resolution of wavelength selecting is significantly narrower than the full width of the isolated resonator.
