Metal Surface Laser Texturing: Multiphysics Modeling of a Single Impact Effect

During laser-matter interaction, a very small layer of molten material forms. The vapor plumes, formed by material vaporization, exercise an overpressure on the molten material.

In a previous work, a 1D thermal model was carried out, but this model did not account for all physical phenomena during laser-matter interaction. For that, it is necessary to couple the thermal equations, the fluids equations and the surface tension.

This study presents a 2D axial symmetry model for a single impact of the laser matter interaction. This model accounts for the evolution of material thermodynamic properties, the matter ablation, and the molten metal motion.
