Sensor Modeling for an Electrical Capacitance Tomography System Applied to Oil Industry

Multiphase flow characterization is an important task for monitoring, measuring or controlling industrial processes. This can be done by means of process tomography. One category of process tomography, is electrical capacitance tomography (ECT), where the cross section to be imaged is surrounded by a set of capacitance electrodes formed from simple metal plates.

This paper presents the development process for modeling an ECT sensor using FEMLAB with MATLAB and the Electromagnetics Module. Generated and measured values are presented for empty and full-with-oil situations. Also, some synthetic examples are shown.
