Steven Conrad - LSU School of Medicine, Shreveport, LA
Working out of the LSU School of Medicine, Dr. Conrad´s experience with modeling began when he developed an interest in the simulation of physiological systems. In particular, he wanted to model artificial organs.
As he explains, "Until recently, artificial organs were frequently designed empirically without the benefit of simulation, which I felt could bring them to higher efficiencies. The `eureka´ moment came when I read a paper about the finite-element design of an oxygenation system."
"COMSOL Multiphysics´ flexibility in the systems and physics it can model makes it a perfect all-round tool for the many applications that a doctor can encounter," concludes Dr. Conrad. "To have a greater understanding of the physical processes that make up the human body´s operation will only advance the medical profession."
