This introductory demonstration will show you the fundamental workflow of the COMSOL Multiphysics® modeling environment. We will cover all of the key modeling steps, including geometry creation, setting up physics, meshing, solving, and postprocessing.

10:30 a.m.

We will discuss conjugate heat transfer with the combination of heat transfer in solids and porous media, as well as heat transfer in fluids, including thermal radiation effects. These phenomena could also be coupled with structural mechanics, chemical reactions, and particle tracing.

Multiphysics Modeling of Instrument Transformers and Sensors

A brief introduction to multiphysics applications and the simulation of real-world devices will be presented.

In this session, we will explore capabilities for static and low-frequency electromagnetics simulations. We will learn how to model magnetic materials and coils. We will also discuss how to account for both electric and magnetic losses, which can be used to study electromagnetic heating.

We will give an overview of using the CFD Module for laminar, turbulent, non-Newtonian, and multiphase and porous media flows as well as flow in mixers. These phenomena could also be coupled with structural mechanics, chemical reactions, and particle tracing.

We will demonstrate the process of transforming fully defined models into specialized simulation applications and the various ways of deploying those applications.

Nicholas Snaith
Nick Snaith joined COMSOL in 2006 and is currently a sales manager in the Burlington, MA, office. He works with customers in Tennessee, North Carolina, and New Jersey.
Viswajith Hanasoge
Viswajith Hanasoge joined COMSOL in 2015 and currently works as a technical sales engineer. He received a master's degree in mechanical engineering from Arizona State University and his interests include solar energy, fluids, and thermal engineering.
Aline Tomasian
Aline Tomasian is an applications engineer at COMSOL, specializing in high- and low-frequency electromagnetics. She holds a BS in physics from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Siva Sashank Tholeti
Siva Sashank Tholeti is an applications engineer at COMSOL. He received his PhD in aeronautics and astronautics from Purdue University. His areas of interest include CFD, plasma-enhanced aerodynamics, plasma physics, propulsion, and multiphysics problems.

Invited Speakers

Nirmal Paudel
Dr. Nirmal Paudel is the senior R&D engineer at ABB’s Medium Voltage Instrument Transformers & Sensors in Pinetops, NC. He has been involved in developing new instrument transformers, sensors, and power harvesting devices for medium-voltage use cases. He has been managing multiple R&D projects and leading the numerical simulations activities for this local business unit. Prior to joining ABB, he worked as an applications engineer and team leader at COMSOL, Inc. Dr. Paudel received his MSEE and PhD in electrical engineering from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2009 and 2012, respectively. His research interests are electromagnetics, multiphysics simulation, and power and energy systems.
