COMSOL Day: Fluids & Heat

See what is possible with multiphysics simulation

Join us for a full-day online event focusing on the crucial physics of fluids and heat. You will have the opportunity to meet COMSOL technical staff and COMSOL users across many industries.  

This event will feature presentations and demonstrations of COMSOL Multiphysics® simulations involving fluid flow and heat transfer. Experienced guest speakers will provide the users’ perspective. As this is a broad topic, the schedule is arranged with several parallel sessions, giving you the opportunity to choose from a range of talks, including specific applications like pipe flow and metal processing and more general issues like solving large CFD problems and nonisothermal flow.

To start, we will briefly discuss the format of the day and go over the logistics for using GoToWebinar.

11:15 a.m.

The Application Builder is included in the COMSOL Multiphysics® software and allows you to transform your models into simulation apps controlled by interfaces appropriate for what is being simulated. This type of tool is unique to COMSOL Multiphysics® and will open up the world of simulation to all engineers, operators of processes, and scientists. This session will demonstrate the use of the Application Builder and how it can fundamentally augment how your organization approaches simulation.

Heat Treatment in Metal Processing

This session will introduce you to modeling the multiphysics of phase transformations and quenching of metals like steel using COMSOL Multiphysics®. With the introduction of the Metal Processing Module to the COMSOL® software product suite, it is now much easier to model solid-state metallurgical phase transformations that are affected by and dependent on other physical phenomena, as well as the resulting material behavior of the transformed metal. In addition to covering the modeling of metallurgical phase transformations and hardening, the presentation will also introduce the new Carburization physics interface and new functionality for importing material properties.

Lauren Sansone
Marketing and Events Director
Lauren Sansone is the marketing and events director at COMSOL, Inc. and has been with COMSOL since 2006. She is responsible for the global event marketing of COMSOL Days, the COMSOL Conference, exhibitions, and training.
Phil Kinnane
Senior VP of Sales
Phil Kinnane is the senior VP of sales at COMSOL, Inc., and has been with COMSOL since 2000. Previously, he worked in industry and has modeling and simulation experience within a variety of engineering fields. He earned his PhD in electrochemical engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm.

Senior Applications Engineer
Siva Sashank Tholeti is an applications engineer at COMSOL. He received his PhD in aeronautics and astronautics from Purdue University. His areas of interest include CFD, plasma-enhanced aerodynamics, plasma physics, propulsion, and multiphysics problems.
Mranal Jain
Senior Applications Engineer
Mranal Jain has been with COMSOL since 2013 and currently leads the applications team in the Los Altos, CA office. He studied microfluidics and electrokinetic transport, while pursuing his PhD in chemical engineering at the University of Alberta, Edmonton.
Alex Guo
Senior Applications Engineer
Alex Guo received his PhD in mechanical engineering from Duke University, working on thin film flow models, electrohydrodynamics, and phase change heat transfer. He joined COMSOL in 2020 as an applications engineer specializing in CFD and transport phenomena.
Galina Shugai
Galina Shugai is a technology specialist at COMSOL with a focus in fluid flow modeling. She received her PhD in hydraulic engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm.
Nicolas Huc
Nicolas Huc joined COMSOL France in 2004 and is currently the head of their development team. He is also the manager of the Heat Transfer Module. Nicolas studied engineering at ENSIMAG before receiving his PhD in living system modeling from Joseph Fourier University.
Jacob Yström
Technology Director
Jacob Yström is the technology director of numerical analysis at COMSOL. He has been the lead developer for the solver technology at COMSOL since 2005. He received his PhD in numerical analysis from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm.
Lorant Olasz
Technology Director, External Interfaces
Lorant Olasz joined COMSOL in 2006 and is the technical product manager for the CAD Import and ECAD Import modules, LiveLink™ for CAD products, and LiveLink development team. Previously, he was a product specialist in structural mechanics. He received his PhD in solid mechanics from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm.
Mats Danielsson
Mats Danielsson joined COMSOL in 2017 as a developer specializing in structural mechanics and mechanics of materials. He earned his PhD in mechanical engineering from MIT in 2003. Before joining COMSOL, he worked in the automotive industry and applied materials research.
Mats Nigam
Mats Nigam is the technical product manager for fluid flow at COMSOL. Prior to joining COMSOL in 2012, Mats worked in academia at MIT and Cambridge University and in the pulp and paper industry at Noss AB. He received his PhD in applied mathematics from MIT in 1999.
Xavier Corbella Coll
Technical Product Manager, Microfluidics Module
Xavier Corbella Coll joined COMSOL Sweden in 2017 and is currently a member of the fluid flow development team. He is also the manager of the Microfluidics Module. Xavier studied mechanical engineering and is specialized in computational methods for transport equations.
