Tune into this 18-minute webinar to learn the basics of high-fidelity modeling for batteries with the COMSOL Multiphysics® software.

Modeling is a powerful tool for the study and development of new battery designs and for selecting suitable batteries for equipment and devices. The Batteries & Fuel Cells Module, an add-on to COMSOL Multiphysics®, includes predefined physics-based models for battery types, such as metal oxide lithium-ion batteries and solid-state and lithium-air batteries. Batteries can be modeled using the Newman model or generic models based on porous electrode theory for arbitrary chemistry. Lumped models, such as single-particle and equivalent circuit models, can be used to approximate the more detailed physics-based models.

This webinar will demonstrate how COMSOL Multiphysics® is used to predict charge and discharge curves and how to perform parameter estimation using impedance spectroscopy studies. The validated models can be used for thermal management and to understand and predict aging in batteries.

Ed Fontes is the chief technology officer at COMSOL. He has been with COMSOL since 1999, and was previously the lead developer for the CFD, heat transfer, and chemical engineering products. He received his PhD in chemical engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm.
