'Form assembly' of an imported 2D axisymmetric geometry

My problem is that, when I 'form assembly' in the geometry section, my resulting 'assembly' still appears as if it is a union and I run into problems when I implement contact pairs at the interfaces of a multi-part 2D geometry. And when I mesh the resulting 'assembly', I get a continuous mesh at the interfaces as if it is a union.

The background is that, I imported a .dxf of a 4-part assembly that is axisymmetric. In the .dxf, the parts share boundaries in some areas. I was wondering if there is a way to make sure there are no shared boundaries? Or is there a sequence of tasks that is should do when I import .dxf assemblies?
