How to select specific objects more easily?

I'm having trouble selecting specific objects in my geometry. This is used for a lot of different things, one is when I am trying to do a boolean operation for previously made objects, I need to select the objects as inputs. Or when assigning objects different materials.

1) Is there any way to color code different objects?

2) When I try using the "Click and Hide" function, the software won't let me select specific objects, I either hide the entire geometry or I don't. Is there a way to hide selected objects?

3) When inputting objects for a boolean operation, is there any other way to select input objects besides finding it visually and clicking on it with the mouse? For example, if an input object is labelled with "Hollow cylinder (dif2)". Is there any way I can type this somwhere to select the input object? There is a paste feature, which opens up to a text box, but whenever I type a label for a previous object, it isn't recognized. I've also tried copying and pasting previous objects into the input box.

Thanks
