Piston Transducer Axial Intensity Profile Artifacts

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hello,

I am attempting to simulate a flat single element piston trasducer pressure and intensity field using the pressure acoustics module in a water tank (frequency domain study). I defined my transducer as a flat line and applied normal displacement to generate the pressure field. My 2D fields make sense to me and match quite well with published results, however, I am seeing very strange artifacts appearing in my 1D intensity profiles. It seems that there are "spikes" in intensity appearing periodically after an axial depth of 60mm is reached from the transducer. Does anyone have any idea why this could be happening? Based on my validation comparisons with other simulation software and the literature, I should be seeing a smooth intensity and pressure profile with none of these spike artifacts.
