Phase change functions

I'm using the phase change part of the heat transfer module. How are theta1 and theta2 modeled in the screenshot shown below? And how does deltaT12 (phase change region) affect the theta1 and theta2 functions? They look similar to logistic functions but how is growth rate determined?
