Numerical Modeling of Magnetic Field Emissions From am HDD Walkover Locating System

In this paper, numerical modeling of the artificially induced magnetic field from a walk-over locator used to detect the drill head underground in Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is presented. Numerical predictions are compared against the experimental data and closed-form solutions to validate the model. After validations, the numerical model is used to investigate a situation that could affect the performance of a walk-over locator operated in a congested urban environment.
