Optimization without Optimization-Module

Hi,

I have a Problem, which seemed to me to be not a very tough one:

I have a 2D stationary heat problem where a specified a heat source on one subdomain. Now I want to adjust this heat source (a scalar varaiable) so that I got a specified temperature at a point. How can I do this?

It seems to me that this is a "optimization problem" (abs(T-Tset)->min; Q_heat is source variable) . But using this module for solving this little problem is like cracking a nut with a sledgehammer :) . At least I don't have access to this module. ;)

Any suggestions or ideas?

Best regards

Hi

certanly, for simple cases you can use COMSOL to do a simple least square optimisation (without the full optimisation module). You need to add a global variable, or a separate ODE where you define your variable w.r.t. some physics or rule. COSMOL will then solve this with the rest.

There are a few examples in the doc, i.e.3.5a structural doc the "torque load case", and I believe a few on the KB (not sure exactly where). There are also a few examples in the book of Zimmerman if I remember right

Good luck
