Stents are used in biomedical applications to support the inner wall of veins and arteries. Self-expanding stents made of shape memory alloys operate differently from balloon-inflated stents, as they are crimped to a diameter suitable for insertion at a low temperature and then released while the blood heats them up to body temperature. This model demonstrates the behavior of such a stent as it is first crimped and then heated to 37°C.
