Balanced Patch Antenna Patch antennas are compact and easy to fabricate, which points to their popularity. Often they sit in devices that have no external antennas such as cellular phones and Bluetooth components. The layout of the patch and the properties of the printed-circuit board determine the antenna's radiation pattern. This, in turn, affects the antenna's directional properties. This model is a full 3D simulation of a 6-GHz patch antenna. The optimum radiation frequency, antenna impedance, and radiation pattern can be extracted from the simulation so as to optimize design. In particular, the impedance efficiency and radiation leakage to other components in the surrounding circuit board are important design parameters.
