MTC Develops Simulation App to Revolutionize Design for Additively Manufactured Parts

Borja Lazaro Toralles, Manufacturing Technology Centre, UK

Tolerances and precision in the aerospace industry are astoundingly tight. Because of the high degree of regulation and safety required, errors and deformation from thermal cycling that occur on the micron scale during manufacturing processes can render a part unusable. Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), a company that researches and employs additive manufacturing, is working to optimize the achieved precision in their processes. Using multiphysics modeling and simulation apps, MTC created an app that predicts the deformation of parts and allows designers to build deformations directly into their designs.

This simulation app created by MTC enables the user to make design adjustments and test changes in the additive manufacturing process, without showing the underlying multiphysics model.
