Multipactor Saturation

Application ID: 22111

Multipaction can occur when electrons are accelerated by a high frequency RF field into surfaces. At certain frequencies, the number of electrons in a cavity can grow exponentially. This exponential growth cannot continue indefinitely because space charge effects in the cavity can prevent electrons from hitting the walls at sufficiently high energy, eventually causing the number of electrons in the cavity to reach dynamic equilibrium. This effect is called multipactor saturation. In this example, multipactor saturation is modeled in a parallel-plate waveguide.

This example requires the Particle Tracing Module.
