Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS) describes a nonlinear interaction between light and sound. In optical fibers, SBS can be detrimental for power or communication purposes, but can be leveraged for sensing applications.

The SBS gain spectrum quantifies the optic-acoustic mode interaction and is useful for fiber design. This application demonstrates how to compute the SBS gain spectrum using overlap integrals between the fundamental optical mode and the propagating acoustic modes. The model is inspired by numerical results provided in a reference.
