In Part 1 of this introductory course on coil modeling, we begin with a step-by-step introduction to the software and building coil models. Follow along in your own open session of COMSOL Multiphysics® as we perform a complete demonstration of building a single-turn coil model under DC operating conditions from start to finish.

This includes discussing why and how the model can be simplified from 3D to the 2D axisymmetric space, building the coil geometry from scratch, using the infinite element domain functionality to truncate the modeling domain, defining the physics using the Magnetic Fields interface, refining the mesh, postprocessing the results of the model, performing a parametric sweep, and generally discussing how to gain confidence in the accuracy of your solution.
