Hello everyone. Hope any of you can help me figuring out this problem.

I am simulating a moving thermal load over a 2D plate under the plane strain condition (simulating laser melting process). Therefore, I coupled a heat transfer problem with a solid mechanics one.

As I am trying to show the molten parts of the material domain, (without involving fluid dynamics module, as I am a beginner in COMSOL (3 weeks years old)), so I used a 2 phase material (solid and liquid) and defined the solid and liquid phases properly, with the transition phase as shown in the attached model.

During the solution, the material was changing the phase correctly and no problem in the heat transfer module. The main problem is that when I coupled the solid mechanics and tried to plot the stress, I found that COMSOL used the solid phase material properties for the whole domain, instead of solving the solid mechanics for the 1st material phase ONLY (as expected).

I know that the problem was originated when defining the solid mechanics module. Becasue I defined the solid mechanics domain as the same as the original domain, which initially, was solid and defined as the solid phase of the material.

Now, I need to define the solid mechanics study to be solved ONLY on the part of the domain representing the solid phase, while not results are required for the other liquid part. Can anyone help me how to do this? Casue I have a deadline after 3 days !!!
