RF or Wave optics module

Hi,

I would like to determine effective refractive index and loss for my dielectric waveguide. I try to use wave optic module with beam propagation method, however, I just can obtain propagation constant. When I use RF module with electromagnetic wave, I can obtain effective refractive index, attenuation constant and propagation constant. Just want to verify that beam propagation method can determine loss or not?
