Linear motors are used in many applications in need of translational motion. Typical characteristics of linear motor designs are high precision or quick acceleration. This model investigates a synchronous motor with three-phase winding on the stationary part and permanent magnets on the moving part. Moving mesh and periodic conditions are utilized to model a periodic part of a complete motor.

The model also explains how this concept also functions as a 2D representation of an axial flux motor (rotational motion).
