Viscoelastic Structural Damper

Damping elements involving layers of viscoelastic materials are often used for reduction of seismic and wind induced vibrations in buildings and other tall structures. The common feature is that the frequency of the forced vibrations is low.
This application studies a forced response of a typical viscoelastic damper. The analysis involves two cases: a frequency response analysis and a time-dependent analysis.

This model example illustrates applications of this type that would nominally be built using the following products:
however, additional products may be required to completely define and model it. Furthermore, this example may also be defined and modeled using components from the following product combinations:
- COMSOL Multiphysics® and
- either the MEMS Module, or Structural Mechanics Module
