Using COMSOL Multiphysics® Selections in the SOLIDWORKS® Software

When modeling with LiveLink™ for SOLIDWORKS®, using COMSOL Multiphysics® selections is an extremely helpful tool for defining material and physics boundary conditions. There are two main types of selections that you will want to create in the SOLIDWORKS® software to connect with COMSOL Multiphysics®: material and explicit selections. We demonstrate how to use both in this video.

After assigning material properties to your geometry in SOLIDWORKS®, you can automatically transfer the selections to COMSOL Multiphysics® during synchronization. This eases the process of adding materials in COMSOL Multiphysics® and eliminates duplicate work. As is shown in the video, material selections can be applied to both solid and surface objects in SOLIDWORKS®.

The second type of selection, explicit selections, has broader applications. They can be applied to assembly components; solid and surface objects; and faces, edges, and vertices. Explicit selections enable you to make design changes in SOLIDWORKS® while maintaining any materials, physics, and mesh boundary conditions created in COMSOL Multiphysics®.
