BDF vs. Generalized Alpha time discretization

I get totally different results in solving a very nonlinear crystalization probelm when using BDF or Generalized Alpha time discretization. I can not confirm which one is right. do you have any guidelines of the strong points and short comings of each? I could not see the note posted in the knowledge base. If you can, reposting it here woud be nice too.
