contact mechanics: blunted cone indenting into elastic halfspace

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Dear COMSOL-users,

has anyone made experiences with contact mechanics using a blunted cone as an indenter into an elastic halfspace?
I have attached my model. It doesn't really work. Maybe that's beacause of the mesh..
Probably this is no big deal for experts in COMSOL. It would be great if someone could help me, telling me how to distribute the mesh or clarifying what's going wrong.

Thank you very much and greetings from Tübingen (Germany)!

Jochen

Hey there,

Did you manage to figure out what went wrong? Looks like you're doing a similar study as I am, I'm trying to conduct a study on hardness testing on thin films but am having similar troubles.
