Running on Windows HPC Server 2008 / R2; question for performance

I prepared COMSOL for running in a cluster, but I don’t use a network floating license actually. The software is installed on a Windows HPC Server 2008 / R2 with 2 computational nodes and a six-core CPU/node (total of 12 physical cores; 24 with hyperthreading, 96 GB RAM).
The performance doesn’t meet my expection.
1.) If I start COMSOL in shared-memory parallel operations (using COMSOL_NUM_THREADS=24) it seems calculations are slowly. The task manager performance tab indicates that all processors are in use, a total of about 80%.
2.) If I start COMSOL without any parameters, COMSOL uses one computational node it seems calculations are faster. Only the processors of one computational node are in use. AND, COMSOL USES ONLY ONE AND THE SAME NODE, that means, if I start a second task COMSOL runs on the same node!
3.) It seems, if I start COMSOL in batch mode (study settings, batch …) with 12 CPU the job runs on one computational node and the performance is good like 2.).
What are your experiences? What can you recommend me to get best performance (refer to knowledgebase #1001) - actual without a network floating license? Can I use cluster support on one physical machine with 2 compu-nodes without a network floating license?
