Elastic Energy Functional Minimizer

I'm new to COMSOL, and I've tried looking through COMSOL Documentation but it's a little hard to follow. I was wondering if I could get some assistance with using COMSOL for the problem I have.

I'm working on an elastic body, which has some energy functional: E. E depends on mixed terms including the thickness: h, an independent variable: r, 2 r-dependent variables \phi and \zeta, and the r-derivatives of both dependent variables (say \phi_r and \zeta_r).

I can optimize E by hand and get Euler-Lagrange Equations, Natural Boundary Conditions, etc... which amounts to a nasty set of equations that I have to solve numerically. I'm only just becoming familiar with terminology like strong and weak form, and have no experience implementing numerical analysis.

SUMMARY - I need to numerically solve for dependent variables that minimize an energy functional but have no experience in these matters. Is there anyone who can offer guidance on this, or perhaps share some generalized walkthrough/tutorial on COMSOL problems like mine?
