How does COMSOL avoid Checkerboard solutions?

I am a Master student, which have started to use COMSOL for my Master Thesis. I am wondering how COMSOL avoid checkerboard solutions of the pressure field, when it solves the Navier Stokes equation. I can see that the default mesh is set to P1-P1, which when using the Galerkin method can give spurios solutions like the checkerboard solution, right?
I first thought that this was avoided with consistent stabilization, but as I understand it after reading the section in the reference guide this only deals with the advection-diffusion part of the velocity field, right?
I hope someone can guide me the right way toward an answer.
Thanks
Best regards
