Elastoplastic Low-Cycle Fatigue Analysis of Cylinder with a Hole
Application ID: 2200
A load carrying component of a structure is subjected to multi-axial cyclic loading during which localized yielding of the material occurs. In this model you perform a low cycle fatigue analysis of the part based on the Smith-Watson-Topper (SWT) model.
Due to localized yielding, you can use two methods to obtain the stress and strain distributions for the fatigue evaluation. The first method is a full elastoplastic analysis with kinematic hardening, while the second is a linear elastic analysis with Neuber correction for plasticity. This example explores the first method. In the model “Notch Approximation to Low-Cycle Fatigue Analysis of Cylinder with a Hole”, the same problem is solved using the elastic approach.

The combination of COMSOL® products required to model your application depends on the physics interfaces that define it. Particular physics interfaces may be common to several products (see the Specification Chart for more details). To determine the right combination of products for your project, you should evaluate all of your needs in light of each product's capabilities, consultation with the COMSOL Sales and Support teams, and the use of an evaluation license.
