The Application Gallery features COMSOL Multiphysics® tutorial and demo app files pertinent to the electrical, structural, acoustics, fluid, heat, and chemical disciplines. You can use these examples as a starting point for your own simulation work by downloading the tutorial model or demo app file and its accompanying instructions.

Search for tutorials and apps relevant to your area of expertise via the Quick Search feature. To download the MPH-files, log in or create a COMSOL Access account that is associated with a valid COMSOL license. Note that many of the examples featured here can also be accessed via the Application Libraries that are built into the COMSOL Multiphysics® software and available from the File menu.

Multiscale Modeling in High Frequency Electromagnetics

Multiscale modeling is a challenging issue in modern simulation. This occurs when there are vastly different scales in the same model. For example, your cell phone is approximately 10 cm, yet it receives GPS information from satellites 20,000 km away. In these models we examine several ... Read More

Modeling a Negative Refractive Index (Wave Optics)

It is possible to engineer the structure of materials such that both the permittivity and permeability are negative. Such materials are realized by engineering a periodic structure with features comparable in scale to the wavelength. It is possible to model both the individual unit cells ... Read More

Transverse Modes for a Symmetric Laser Cavity

This model demonstrates how a nonlinear equation system can be setup to solve for the eigenfrequencies of a symmetric laser cavity. The model uses the bidirectional formulation of the Electromagnetic Waves, Beam Envelopes physics interface. The computed eigenfrequencies are verified with ... Read More

Single-Bit Hologram

When two coherent light beams intersect, an interference pattern appears. If this occurs in a material that is sensitive to light, with intensities greater than a certain exposure threshold, the interference pattern is recorded in the material as a modulation of the refractive index and ... Defining a Mapped Dielectric Distribution of a Material (Wave Optics)

In this example, the properties of an engineeredmaterial are modeled by a spatially varying dielectric distribution. Specifically, a convex lens shape is defined via a known deformation of a rectangular domain. The dielectric distribution is defined on the undeformed, original ... Read More

Holographic Page Data Storage Simulation

- This model simulates a holographic page data storage system. - The studies include the recording and retrieval processes. - The object beam encrypting 8-bit data is focused into a holographic material by a Fourier lens (Fourier transformation). - In the recording process, the object ...
