Meshing union in pipes

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi folks.

I have two pipes that are connected by an union: these pipes about 2 meters long each and both 0.05223 m in diameter.

My problem arises when I try to mesh these two pipes. I am using free tetrahedral (calibrated for "fluid dynamics" with predefined mesh refinement: "fine".

However in the union the mesh behaves a bit strangely...please check the attached image (file is too big too upload).

And this mesh effect it's noticed in the results, as strange fluctuations near the union appear.

Can someone provide me with some insight in this matter?

All the best.

Rui
