Moving mesh- When to use?

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hello,

I have a very basic question ... Can anybody help me to understand when we actually need Moving mesh?
I have read many discussions, but I still don't know whether I need it for my simulations or not.

I am trying to simulate the effect of mass loading on resonant frequency of cantilever.

I appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Som

Hi

A ALE moving mesh is typically used in fluid flow, when you interact with a solid that deforms over large distances, or if you change the geometrical shape of your model via mesh deformations.

But if you are in plain "solid", even if you cantilever deforms greatly (if so turn on large deformations, but it makes the model non-linear and longer to solve), you do normally not need ALE meshing

Good luck
