The Application Gallery features COMSOL Multiphysics® tutorial and demo app files pertinent to the electrical, structural, acoustics, fluid, heat, and chemical disciplines. You can use these examples as a starting point for your own simulation work by downloading the tutorial model or demo app file and its accompanying instructions.

Search for tutorials and apps relevant to your area of expertise via the Quick Search feature. To download the MPH-files, log in or create a COMSOL Access account that is associated with a valid COMSOL license. Note that many of the examples featured here can also be accessed via the Application Libraries that are built into the COMSOL Multiphysics® software and available from the File menu.

Shift into gear

This model demonstrates the ability to simulate Multibody Dynamics in COMSOL. It comprises a multilink mechanism that is used in an antique automobile as a gearshift lever. It was created out of curiosity to find out how large forces are on the individual components. The model uses ... Read More

Danckwerts Benchmark

This model compares the solution to the model equations of a tubular reactor using Danckwerts inlet and outlet conditions. A second almost identical model is defined with extra inlet and outlet sections where no reactions occur. The concentration at the beginning of the inlet section is ... Read More

Gregory-Maksutov Telescope

The Gregory-Maksutov telescope is a simple catadioptric telescope comprising a spherical corrector lens and a spherical primary mirror. In this example the corrector lens and mirror are formed using the 'Spherical Lens 3D' and 'Spherical Mirror 3D' parts respectively from the Ray Optics ... Read More

How to Improve the Performance of View Factor Computation for Surface-to-Surface Radiation

This model shows how to use the features of the Heat Transfer Module to reduce the computation time and memory usage in view factor computations. Illustrative results of speedup and memory usage reduction are given on a benchmark model. The solution is not computed, only the view ... Read More

Modeling a Koch Snowflake

This example exemplifies how to model a Koch snowflake using the Application Builder. A more detailed description of the phenomenon and the modeling process can be seen in the blog post "[Using the Application Builder to Create a Koch Snowflake](https://www.comsol.com/blogs/using-the-application-builder-to-create-a-koch-snowflake/) ... Damping Coefficients of a Squeeze Film Damper

Squeeze film dampers are components that provide additional damping to rotating machines. To simplify the modeling of a rotor assembly, squeeze film dampers are modeled in terms of their damping coefficients which are a functions of the journal location in the damper. This model computes ... Read More

Electrical Heating in a Busbar Assembly

This tutorial model of the Joule heating effect in a busbar demonstrates how to synchronize an assembly between the SOLIDWORKS® software and the COMSOL Multiphysics® software, how to modify the geometry from COMSOL Multiphysics®, and how to run a geometric ... Read More

Simulation of a Counterweight Trebuchet

In this multibody dynamics model of a simple counterweight trebuchet, a parametric sweep is used to study throwing distance as function of the sling length. For more details on performing a multibody analysis of a counterweight trebuchet, see this blog post: [What Is the Physics Behind ... Read More

Pacemaker Electrode

This model, dealing with the current and potential distribution around one pair of electrodes, demonstrates how to synchronize and modify geometry in Creo Parametric by using the LiveLink interface. Read More

Evaluation of Dynamic Coefficients of a Plain Journal Bearing

When analyzing rotors, it is common that bearings are modeled through their effective dynamic coefficients about a static equilibrium position. This model illustrates how to compute such coefficients for a plain journal bearing. The bearing length is kept much smaller than its diameter ... Read More
