Want to learn how to efficiently model heat transfer? Join us for this online course to get an overview of the capabilities of the heat transfer interfaces in the COMSOL® software.

Day 1

After a brief introduction to the software and the modeling workflow, the course will transition to focusing on heat transfer applications. The following topics will be covered:

  • Conduction
  • Common boundary and domain conditions
  • Transient models
  • Specific features including isothermal domain, thermal contact, infinite elements etc.
  • Common multiphysics couplings

Day 2

The second day builds upon the training from the previous day with a focus on the modeling of conjugate heat transfer and heat transfer in porous media. Topics will include:

  • Conjugate heat transfer - laminar and turbulent flow regimes
  • Forced and natural convection
  • Natural convection contd.
  • Energy balance
  • Heat transfer in porous media
  • Heat transfer in pipes

Day 3

The third day will focus on special cases in heat transfer modeling. Topics will include:

  • Heat transfer in shells and layered materials
  • Moisture transport
  • Heat transfer with phase change
  • Discretization, mesh and solvers

Day 4

The fourth day will focus on modeling radiative heat transfer. Topics will include:

  • Surface-to-surface radiation
  • Radiation in participating media

Suggested Background

This course assumes familiarity with the fundamentals of heat transfer. We strongly recommend that those new to COMSOL Multiphysics® take the Introduction to COMSOL Multiphysics® online training course prior to attending this class.
